Drudkh: Eternal turn of the wheel
26/09/12 || sincan
According to what I remember from the pep talk by Season of Mist this record was supposed to bring back to their older sound. Did it do so? No.
Still here?
Well…
Let’s try this again.
Once Drudkh was a really nice black metal band and then they tried to ruin that with some post rock. Did they succeed? Well they went from awesome into totally forgettable, so it was with great expectation I waited for this album to come and bring back the ol’good Drudkh. The album was released and as far as I know the post rock is gone but we still got the cleaner and more rock’n‘rollish production which really makes their atmospheric music less interesting, this was further ruined by the fact that the vocals is put higher in the mix.
One interesting thing is the bass line in the second track, one can just imagine what was going on but according to my imagination the bass player had just started to play Wordfeud and was eager to keep playing. The others in the band went mad and shouted and shouted until he gave them a couple of recorded seconds of bashing his cock against one of the bass’ strings and then they looped this during the song.
At the time the album was being finished the bassist panicked
because of his lack of contribution and the rumor tells that he actually
secretly added “grey-haired” into the name of the last song because it
sounded “more artistic and mystic, in a genuine way”. The others got, to
everyone’s surprise, pleasantly surprised and according to my source
the following discussion, during total hubris, occurred:
Band member 1: Let’s name the songs after months!
Band member 2: But we only got five tracks!
Band member 1: Yes, I know, but there is only four months so we skip naming the intro after one!
No it wasn’t fun, I know. So wasn’t the album either if I compare it with their older works. If I don’t compare it, it’s actually a decent album with it moments. For instance track four is pretty good.
